Well here it's Saturday morning. Many of you don't realize this but on the 1st of the month or yesterday because the 1st fell on a weekend this month all the people who receive a government check received theirs.
What does this mean you ask? Well let me say that many of the local motels are full, getting meals at the various soup kitchens is easier, the stores are selling a bit more beer and the drug dealers will be busy for a few days.
Actually all that happens and more. Probably 20% to 25% of the folks out here on the street receive a check. Even though the purpose is to provide a basic stipend to live on it's mostly used for a party that can last several days.
Don't get me wrong, there are some people who actually use their checks for the purpose intended but if they are still in a camp or free shelter they are renting a motel room, drinking and doing drugs. This is no joke.

Here is where the rubber meets the road. I'll talk about homelessness on the streets of Ft Worth. I am homeless and with that in mind I feel this conversation can show things the main stream press does not cover beyond the feel good news or the dramatic news. This is real life.
